This is a unique 1800's smoothing board and roller. It is also known as a mangle and roller. It was used to get wrinkles out of fabric. According to information i got with it, a damp cloth was wrapped around the roller and pressed with the board. I have included a drawing of it being used in the last picture. It is hand painted and has the initials "cbd" and the date "1872" painted on it. The smoothing board's overall length is 29-1/2" and the width is 5" on the bottom and tapers down to 3-1/2 on the top.
The roller is 31-1/2" llong x 2-1/2" in diameter. This is a great addition to your antique collection which is rarely found. Please send me a conversation if you have any questions or need more pictures.
