Large heavy vintage embers iron with a charming cockerel closure mechanism from france, circa 1800s. The iron is in beautiful condition with a burnished wooden handle with a lovely patina, held up by two decorative metal fish. The embers from the coal fire would be placed in the tin inner and the iron then used on linen, usually on when damp. As is usual, the original embers inner tin hasn't survived the years, so although you could use it, the consequences for your clothes can only be imagined :.
