Lovely french antique sad iron made in the mid 1800's by the foundry corneau in charleville, in the ardennes (north of france). The corneau brothers ("frères" in french) opened their first shop in 1846, producing nails and other little elements. After a bit they started producing a wide variety of iron items, including- sad irons- they became very famous and wealthy.
One of them even became politician, and created a local newspaper that still exist nowadays. The fondry is still open under the name deville. This a lovely item that can be used in so many different ways; ironing of course, book ends.
It is a bit rusty of course but you can still see the lovely crest, corneau frères and n3. Are you looking for an other model of sad iron. This item is made of iron.
